How to Clean Your Lazyboy Recliner

Now that you finally have your very own Lazyboy recliner at home, it is very important that you know how to properly clean and take care of it. Cleaning your recliner is very important if you want to maintain its look and if you want it to last a very long time. Whether you bought a recliner that is made of leather, suede, cloth or any material, it is important that you learn how to clean it yourself to save some.

The good thing is that Lazyboy recliners are quite easy to take care and maintain. If you get yourself some Lazyboy recliner slipcovers, it becomes even easier – just remove the slipcover and stash it into the washing machine (which is why slipcovers are a must). But how do you properly clean and maintain your Lazyboy recliner? Here are some tips that can help you:

1. Cleaning the cover made of cloth or suede
You can get rid of loose dirt or dust on your recliner using a brush or a vacuum cleaner (with a brush attachment). You can use some mild detergent, but be careful not to use one that has bleach or whiteners. You can mix one fourth of a cup of detergent and warm water then stir with a hand blender to create soap suds. It is the suds that you will use to clean your recliner, using a sponge to lightly scrub off dirt. Make sure to tap dry and to let it dry overnight

2. Cleaning leather upholstery
When cleaning leather, use a cleaning solution made from mild facial soap with warm water. With a soft rag, gently rub the cover, paying extra attention to the arm and head rest, where most dirt accumulates. Rinse lightly with water and pat dry with a towel. Make sure to use distilled water to prevent discolorations.

3. Vacuum the crevices
Dust would often accumulate in the crevices of your Lazyboy recliner. Make sure that you dust it away with a vacuum from time to time.

4. When there are spills
Spills are inevitable especially if you allow kids in your recliner, or if you drink and eat while sitting on it. When spills happen, immediately wipe it clean using a dabbing motion – NEVER rub. Also, do not let the liquids dry up or they may be very hard to clean afterwards. Afterwards, you can use leather cleaner or some soap water solution to remove residue that has been left behind.

5. When there are ink marks
Ink can be very difficult to remove. Do not give in to the temptation of using strong household cleansers to rub it away. There are some special cleaning solutions available that have been made to remove ink on leather or cloth surfaces. You can get a hold of these and apply it as quickly as possible.

Here are a step by steps guide on how to clean your Lazyboy Recliner

Liquid stains:
To clean liquid stains; tea, juice, coffee, beer, soda, milk, etc., follow the instructions mentioned below:

  • Immediately blot the liquid with a clean towel, do not spread the liquid.
  • Once the spilled area is clean from liquid, do not let the area dry, and spot clean the affected area.
  • For this purpose, take a clean towel or microfiber cloth and soak it in a mixture of water and soap or surface cleaner. Then, gently clean the stain in a circular motion with mild pressure.
  • If the soap mixture doesn’t lift the stain, use a multipurpose or dedicated fabric cleaner and repeat the process.
  • Use soft bristles brush if required to finish the spot cleansing.
  • Wipe dry the area with a clean towel or lint-free cloth
  • Cushion covers should be removed immediately and laundered.
  • If required, remove the soap residue with a clean damp cloth.
  • Pile fabric may need additional brushing after drying to reset the direction of piles and the overall look.

Non-Liquid Stains:
For non-liquid or semi-liquid stains such as; Ketchup, Syrups, jelly, or any other food item, follow the instructions mentioned below;

  • Immediately clean the excess spilled liquid content and scrapped the solid or semi-solid material with a butter knife.
  • Clean the affected area with a towel soaked in soap and water, and use a multipurpose cleanser if needed.
  • Drain the excess liquid from the towel and gently rub it over the stain. Repeat the process until the stain lifts off.
  • Remove the soap residue with a clean damp towel or microfiber cloth.
  • Only use a soft-bristled brush to rub off the stain.
  • Pile fabric may need additional brushing after drying to reset the direction of piles and the overall look.

Precautions:
  • Never use harsh cleansers; they may damage the fabric. Instead, use a mild multipurpose or a dedicated cleaner, i.e., leather cleaner.
  • Do not over-damp the towel or microfiber cloth with soap or cleanser mixture.
  • Never use harsh metallic or strong bristles to rub the stain. Only use a soft-bristled brush if necessary.
  • Consider the specific fabric care after cleaning the spot to maintain the look of your recliner.

It is also a good idea to ask your Lazyboy recliner dealer for tips in cleaning your recliner chair. They can even tell you about special conditioners which can protect your recliner to make it last even longer. Make sure that you take time every month to clean your Lazyboy recliner.

The cushions on the recliners that are part of my sectional are so close to the arms that I cannot get into the space to clean. I can barely reach down and can feel crumbs etc. that have fallen down there. What do I need to do to remove this debris?

We have cloth recliners that we purchased 2.5 years ago. Does Lazyboy offer a service to come clean the recliners and reapply the stain resistance solution?
